Here we go again, with the most randomest blog entries that I can ever think of. So this time, its about my new school :] University of Hawaii @ Manoa Campus. I often call it 'Harvard of Hawaii' just to make myself feel better for the fact that this is the only place I applied [how stupid].

Well, so! let's start up this blog! :]. Alright.. so I'm an Electrical Engineering Major, and planning on Japanese Minor. As I've written in my earlier blog entry, [http://blog.netwy.net/tc/entry/University-of-Hawaii-NSO-New-Student-Orientation] I'm not that interested in my major (did I even write this?). As far as I know, electrical engineering is one of the hardest major in ALL UNIVERSITIES. And guess what :]?! I was a fool to be the one to take it ^-^. Smart? or not so smart.

Then, it goes to my minor :], Japanese. It sure sounds good. I mean, isn't it? Being able to speak other languages and hopefully next time you visit that country, you don't have to be depended on either your friends or your guide! But guess what? My professor can't speak english. This is "THE SHITTIEST FEELING" that I've gotten this entire year. As I was hoping that I wouldn't regret my choice, I had already hit the ground on my very first day in UH(University of Hawaii).

Let's not forget about Math class. It's in a BIG lecture room with a huge black boards and 2 projector screens :] how sweet! even better, with a professor who looks like a turtle :]. I just had to take five in order to ROFL at myself for not being able to make into Calculus (and having to be stuck with him). My assistant teacher wasn't so bad though. He was kind of like DR. IDA, (former math teacher) but with more hair and little confusion with his sexuality. Other than that, he was great.

OMG! Psychology. One of the classes that I was eager to take! :]. However, I came to realize that our classes are cancelled until our 3rd week. I learned it the hard ways though. I sat in an empty class with fellow students who were lost with me. For about 10 minutes, we sat there and talked, waiting for our teacher. And whether it's a He or She, didn't show up. As impatient as I could be, I was the first one to walk out of that class (didn't have anyone that I was interested in :]).

Well, these are all my classes with short details for each :]. I'm still trying to get used to this whole university thing, but as far as I've been through, there's really no difference with high school. College just have more time to manage, and I guess one needs to be able to learn how to keep it organized. And until we are notified of Midterms and Finals, we are pretty much free-souls :]. I will continue to write whatever comes on the way and keep you guys informed.

ROCK ON KIDS! :]

Clubbing Experience

2008/08/19 07:32 / Daily Life

Alright, as you can see from the title, this is a blog that has to do with my very first personal clubbing experience. This may be the very first time, and probably not the last of it. On the 16th of August, 2008, for  the very first time of my life, I went to the club, Xylohs. And so, This is how it all went.

It was around 11:00 PM when everyone decided to meet up at one of our friend, Dylan's house. As Dylan, Dari and Adrian had picked me up and got to Dylan's, we were able to recognize a few familiar faces. A few of our friends had already arrived before we got there. Soon, the rest of the people arrived. It ended up as that Dylan's house was packed with our '08 class of Kalani graduates. As I remember, there were about 20 peoples filling his house and this was without Scott and his Mckinley friends such as Angelica, Keith and Saori. Soon, it was time to go. After few minutes of chatting and preparing, we let majority of the people to leave. And once more, it was just Adrian, Dylan, Dari and me. We had decided to take couple shots prior to our arrival and this was to save money from alcohol purchases at the bar and to reduce the awkwardness while spending our time there. My body had still rejected alcohol from prior days at Dylan's, but I was still able to take couple shots with Pog, some mixture of fruit juice. Then, we were on our way to Xylohs.

As we arrived, we were checked of our ID's by Securities. Then as we followed a line of people, there were these 2 people on the counter who were checking a list. I recall that if your name wasn't on the list, you were not allowed to enter. Thanks to Dylan and maybe from others' hook up, I was able to enter and we were able to reunite with the people who were at Dylan's earlier that night and Scott with his Mckinley crew. We shared handshakes and hugs as greeting. I personally thought this place was going to be lot bigger, but unfortunately, it wasn't. And as small as Islands of Hawaii gets, I met people from my elementary and middle school and also people that I work with, Such as Kainoa, and Tam.

Fastly, to be honest, I was getting bored with the place. Adrian, noticing my trains of thoughts, took me to the counter and bought me a glass of beer. I thanked him with a cheer. However, this didn't really get me anywhere. Since I do not dance, I was often standing still and have couple conversation with people I've met. Dari and few others tried to convince me that it was waste of time to stand still while being at the club. I agreed in my head, but my body was no longer under my control. It refused to move. Dylan, again, took a step for me and pushed me into the dance floor [which was packed with weird people, so I thought]. As awkward as it could be, Dari kept me company while I was there. Not knowing what to do, I took a quick view of others and mimicked what I saw. Unfortunately, my head was still telling me, "failed".

The night soon ended. When we got out of the club, it was little over 2 or 3. As we were about to leave, we received a call from Keith, informing us that his car was towed. Thus, he joined with the rest of us [Adrian, Dari, Dylan, Scott, and Me] on our ways to Zippy's. And there, we had our early breakfast. Dari who didn't feel very well at the time, fell on the bed straight after we got to Dylan's. We all slept over at his house and our day was over. I found myself to be the first one to be up on the morning. And I left the house, as they did not notice me leaving.

This is the last of my memory of the clubbing and the last day of hang out with Scott. I can not deny that this experience was somewhat exciting, but mostly awkward too.

i guess i got to admit that it wasn't as bad as i thought it'd be ^--^.. but i don't think i can say i was fully satisfied w/ the whole environment ^^. maybe because it was the last day to hang out for some of us like scott and knowing that we jus had to try our best to make it the bestest time.

anyways thanks for dropping by kameron. :]

On the 31st of July, 2008, I visited University of Hawaii @ Manoa, Campus Center. Expecting lots to learn, I woke up early in the morning and arrived at the Campus by 7:30 Am. When I got there, there seem to be a tent where all new students were to check in and receive our name tags as with who we have as our NSO leader. My leader was Chun. Right before our Orientation, I met my friends from middle school and high school, but only with a short greeting, we were separated into smaller groups that we were assigned to.

The Orientation first started with very simple things. Introduction. We all introduced ourselves among the group and slowly felt more comfortable with each other. Right next to our group, was one of my best friend, Adrian's group with Kellie who i knew from elementary and Courtney from middle school. I was often distracted by their jokes and teasings, but was able to concentrate through our sessions.

We then were divided into Majors. According to our choice of major we were divided into sometimes bigger, but mostly into smaller groups. Then as a group, we visited our perspective professors and received a lecture of some kind and also a go-over of fall '08 semester schedules. Then we returned to the campus center for lunch.

We were provided with small breakfast and a buffet lunch which was pretty satisfying. This was 5 hours after our orientation has started. Here and there I was able to spot people who were going for their seconds and thirds. The food, in fact, wasn't too bad, but I would say it felt as if something was missing. Maybe it's because the orientation costed students 80 dollars each. To us, it was a great deal of money, and for the same reason, the orientation itself could not satisfy us fully.

After our lunch, before we could digest our food, we headed for a short campus tour. Here and there we met up with other groups and as our group was directed same way as my friend Adrian, he pulled of jokes and I often got pointed out by the group leader, Chun.

Then campus tour ended and there were resource fair. Nothing really seem to catch my interest, thus rather i spent this time to make my University of Hawaii, student ID. Then, everything was over. after 11 hours of Orientation, I was able to return home around 6pm. The long journey costed me a long nap, but i surely learned something out of the orientation. I can't really say this NSO was 100% the right decision, but personally, i thought it was worth awhile.
