Approximately 6:45 PM in Hawaii, Oahu had lost its power according to the spokesman of Hawaiian Electric Co. However, it wasn't till two hours later when the entire islands of Oahu has lost its power due to outage in the generators also. In reference to many of the Informational Websites, power outage had left outage in island's population of 900,000 people and thousands of tourists including vacationing President-elect Barack Obama.
By 6 o'clock in the morning, about 113,000 customer's power has been retored, mostly on the west side of the island. However, it's not till later the remaining of the island's population will gain back their power.
Gov. Linda Lingle has said that the utility will be taking one of the generator to Obama, elected-president's rented beach house, but was informed that he has had already 3 generators in position.
The outage seem to be caused by the thunderstorm little after sun has set, but thunderstorm soon calmed, leaving the island under dark.
As for me, I was in Ala Moana Shopping Center working on my part-time job. Around 7 O'clock we had our power out, leaving most of our customers under ruckus. By 7:45, we had most of our customers leave after their manual check outs and our managements had finally decided to close down the place. By 8 o'clock the employees were informed that we are able to leave after cleaning up some of the mess. Although it was a unconvinient experience, it's one of the 'happenings' that it seems to me as I can share with my co-workers.
Currently, I'm at post by my cell phone since the restaurant has still not gained back its power and I was informed that it's not till later on that we will be opening up again.
By 8:30 am, Hawaiian Electric has restored over half of Oahu. approximately at 179,000 of their 295,000 customers.
We seem to pay one of the most highest pays in electricity bills yet seems as if we also have most unreliable electrical grid in the nation. It is understandable that we are not connected to rest of the nation-wide grid, meaning no back-up system. However, a grid more resilient to minor problems would be very nice..
Yea I lost power around 7:30ish and I was watching a Japanese Drama on the computer and all of a sudden my screen went dark. Good thing I was using a laptop and the whole episode was loaded already lol. It was pitch black and it was so funny because 30min after everything went dark some people started to play a bunch of fireworks ^^. Since there was nothing much to do I ended up playing my DS for a bit and then went to bed kinda early. I tried to read a book but holding a flashlight while reading got annoying. I saw a lot of lightning but I did not hear thunder.
I was wondering if any malls and such went out because I know Pearlridge has a backup generator and so I was assuming that Ala Moana had one too. However, it seems as if even those were not working and everything really did completely black out. There was a Zippy's that still had power tho and my friend said that it was really busy over there. Well it is good that you were able to make it home safely. And lol you were updating this from your phone I probably would have done the same thing cept I don't know if I can use my phone to update xanga. If I had the iphone I could but I only have the itouch and that requires actual internet.
actually i didn use my phone to update a blog. i woke up early in the morning. exactly an hour after the power has come back, i was up online on my computer hoping to keep everyone updated in the time being. well i headed to work this morning and well, the water was still not running at islands, which delayed our openings. So the restaurant later opened up at 4 pm. the company must've lost lots of money.
Here we go again, with the most randomest blog entries that I can ever think of. So this time, its about my new school :] University of Hawaii @ Manoa Campus. I often call it 'Harvard of Hawaii' just to make myself feel better for the fact that this is the only place I applied [how stupid].
Well, so! let's start up this blog! :]. Alright.. so I'm an Electrical Engineering Major, and planning on Japanese Minor. As I've written in my earlier blog entry, [http://blog.netwy.net/tc/entry/University-of-Hawaii-NSO-New-Student-Orientation] I'm not that interested in my major (did I even write this?). As far as I know, electrical engineering is one of the hardest major in ALL UNIVERSITIES. And guess what :]?! I was a fool to be the one to take it ^-^. Smart? or not so smart.
Then, it goes to my minor :], Japanese. It sure sounds good. I mean, isn't it? Being able to speak other languages and hopefully next time you visit that country, you don't have to be depended on either your friends or your guide! But guess what? My professor can't speak english. This is "THE SHITTIEST FEELING" that I've gotten this entire year. As I was hoping that I wouldn't regret my choice, I had already hit the ground on my very first day in UH(University of Hawaii).
Let's not forget about Math class. It's in a BIG lecture room with a huge black boards and 2 projector screens :] how sweet! even better, with a professor who looks like a turtle :]. I just had to take five in order to ROFL at myself for not being able to make into Calculus (and having to be stuck with him). My assistant teacher wasn't so bad though. He was kind of like DR. IDA, (former math teacher) but with more hair and little confusion with his sexuality. Other than that, he was great.
OMG! Psychology. One of the classes that I was eager to take! :]. However, I came to realize that our classes are cancelled until our 3rd week. I learned it the hard ways though. I sat in an empty class with fellow students who were lost with me. For about 10 minutes, we sat there and talked, waiting for our teacher. And whether it's a He or She, didn't show up. As impatient as I could be, I was the first one to walk out of that class (didn't have anyone that I was interested in :]).
Well, these are all my classes with short details for each :]. I'm still trying to get used to this whole university thing, but as far as I've been through, there's really no difference with high school. College just have more time to manage, and I guess one needs to be able to learn how to keep it organized. And until we are notified of Midterms and Finals, we are pretty much free-souls :]. I will continue to write whatever comes on the way and keep you guys informed.
all your classes are just lectures the whole time T.T.. i am studying very hard in my japanese right now though :D i am hoping that i can do super well by the end of next year.. ^^ hopefully.. things more exciting in college will happen ^^
well.. they aren't too bad though ^^ to be honest. its good to hear that you are tryiing hard.. which i should be doing also ^-^.. maybe i'll learn something and continue w/ japanese as my minor :].. thanx~
yay for college life! hehe...ah classes, i don't like classes. but you're right about being excited for psychology! i'm taking it this semester (so you can help me too!) and it's been pretty interesting so far. i like it. :-) but good luck with all, and i'll be sure to read your blog more often!
haha thanx for dropping by ray. um.. lets see.. well its been like my 2nd week? or 3rd? of my college life.. and there hasn't really been anything that had gotten my attention. well my psychology class is the one where i study on my own and just meet up once a week just to take tests for what i studied.. so i should be doing fine as long as i don't fall behind :]. you too, good luck with college :]
Haha UH is also the only placed I applied for ^^;; My first week of college was a bit odd I must say. I felt a bit lost heh -_-;; But yea when I first met sensei I thought she couldn't really speak English. I was like oh no how am I gonna explain to her that I want to enroll in this class ^^; I am glad I was able to work everything out tho. I got to meet you fun ppl haha. I remember that first week or so when we were doing the business card thing I think I was partners with you and your brother at that one time we were standing and using our name cards for the business cards. Lol I think I remember I was acting kinda weird ^^; But who knew that one day this random Korean would come and sit next to me in the library and invade my bag and ask me for the hw. Haha and then the evilness started.
And lol yea I went to the first day of my psychology class too. Haha that jus shows that noone reads their emails Well your on CH 10 now omedeto! Just 8 more to go ^^; Don't worry you can make it.
Well this school semester is almost done and I am commenting on a blog that talks about the begining haha. I can't wait till vacation but then that means no more Japanese class So we have to get the same class again next semester too ok! Haha this comment is kinda long... It could be it's own blog ^^;
mm.. well lots of things to worry about.. like finals that's coming about and exams and tests.. shouldn't be wasting my time, but i just can't focus onto my priorities. it kind of worries me how things are going to work out. hopefully for the best.
Leave your greetings here.
