It was the night of February 10th, 2008 when Sungnyemun(also known as namdaemun) started smoking. Then, around 1-2 AM on the 11th, Sungnyemun was destroyed to put out the fire.

It is a great dissappointment to find that now, this building no longer exists. Sungnyemun had been protecting Korea's capital for the last 600 years, but now, it has turned into ashes. However, we should not lose our hopes and pride through this incident. Instead, learn a lesson and respect our history through protecting what is left of our national treasures.

i really wish i saw it before it was burnt down.. it's so sad that it got burnt :[ hopefully they'll build the second one that looks exactly like the first one ^^

i'm sure they will... but it probably won't feel the same.. but hopefully it's built for the same reason as why they built the first one.. not just to calm the crowd.. ^^.. thankss~!!

the fire started when one old person.. put the place on
fire after sneaking in through the back door with a ladder. he poured out couple bottle of oils and put the place on fire.. he was mad at the government and such.. and was once accused of putting national treasure on fire when he was innocent i remember.
